The stupidity of the #UberStrike #LyftStrike

Today, some Uber and Lyft drivers will be "striking" because they feel their "wages" are too low. This shows a clear misunderstanding what some of these drivers signed up for and should stop driving not just today, but for good, to find an actual job. It's a shame I just started this blog yesterday so it will not get a lot of exposure.

Apparently, these idiots are more interested in poisoning the well than do what is right for the ridesharing community -- drivers and riders. You can't strike for higher wages when you are not an employee, you numbskulls. You can take yourself off the platform at will, which is the whole point of the freedom the rideshare experience offers for drivers.

Wages are something an employee receives from an employer, while Uber and Lyft are not employers and drivers are clearly not employees. Nor are drivers self-employed, rather they are clearly independent contractors. They were told this in no uncertain terms when they signed up for the gig and now want to change their status. Why? Because they say they aren't making enough money. If they aren't making enough money, then find another way to make income, don't poison the well for the rest of us! Their actions, if successful, will make Lyft and Uber far more expensive for riders and thereby less popular to use. The end result will be fewer drivers, fewer riders, and those seeking higher "wages" will be out of a "job" anyway.

For instance, if someone is only making $5/hour after car expenses, then do something else. Leave the driving to those of us that know how to make $18-25/hour. I have noticed on social media that those seeking to be paid a minimum hourly wage are often those with low ratings from riders and make horrible comments publicly about what an inconvenience the riders are. They forget that the riders are the ones paying them, not Uber or Lyft, and they should be making the ride as enjoyable for the rider as possible.

For instance, many are annoyed when a rider asks them to change the radio station or change the temperature in the car. The response from some of these drivers is "I am not here for their entertainment, it is MY car!" They clearly don't get how to get a 5 start from a rider or bigger tips. These weaklings in the ridesharing world eventually get weeded out and are forced off the platforms. Uber and Lyft have ratings for both drivers and riders for the purpose of having a positive experience.

The better riders will be out today en mass to thwart the poison offered up by those "striking." Many of us will be out there more today than normal, to counteract the stupidity of some and be there for our riders.
